Rent a jeep for mustang trip

Description

Nepal's mountain roads don't care what kind of car you brought. The Beni–Jomsom–Korala stretch into Upper Mustang, the track up toward Dolpo, the switchbacks past Kagbeni. these are riverbed crossings, loose scree, and dust that gets into everything by the second hour. A sedan won't make it. A Scorpio, with the right driver behind the wheel, will.

Our Scorpio 4WD rental comes with a driver, not a self-drive option, and that's on purpose. These roads reward local knowledge: which checkpoint needs which permit stamped first, where the river crossing is manageable and where it isn't after a rain, when to push on to the next village before dark instead of chancing a landslide stretch at dusk. Our drivers have done these routes enough times that they're not learning the road with you on it.

Pricing: $120 per day, which covers up to 200km. Go past that and it's a flat $10 for every additional 50km no surprise charges tacked on at drop-off. Fuel and driver allowance are both built into the $105, so the number you see is the number you pay for the road portion of your trip.

This isn't a Kathmandu valley sightseeing jeep. It's built for people heading somewhere the road actively fights you. trekkers getting dropped at a trailhead beyond where buses run, groups doing the Mustang or Dolpo jeep route instead of walking the lower sections, film and photography teams who need a vehicle that can sit at a viewpoint for an hour without worrying about the climb back down.

Pickup is arranged out of Kathmandu, and we'll work the itinerary around whether you're doing a one-way drop, a round trip, or stitching the jeep leg into a longer trek. Tell us the route and the dates, and we'll tell you straight whether the Scorpio is the right call or whether the road conditions that season call for something else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is self-drive available, or does it always come with a driver?

Driver only. We don't offer self-drive on the Scorpio. The roads this vehicle is built for Mustang, Dolpo, and similar jeep tracks, aren't ones you want to be learning on the fly, and permits at checkpoints along these routes typically require a local driver anyway.

What exactly is included in the $120/day rate?

Fuel, driver, and up to 200km of driving for that day. If your route runs longer than 200km on a given day, it's an extra $10 per 50km beyond that- calculated simply, not padded.

Do we need permits for routes like Upper Mustang or Dolpo?

Yes, both are restricted areas requiring separate permits (on top of the standard ACAP or park entry fees, depending on the route). We can help arrange these ahead of your trip so you're not sorting it out at a checkpoint.

How many people and how much luggage fits?

A Scorpio comfortably seats up to 6-7 including the driver, with space for trekking duffels and standard luggage. If your group is larger or your gear load is heavy (film equipment, extra fuel cans for a longer expedition), let us know when booking so we can plan seating and cargo properly.

Can the jeep be combined with a trek-like a drop-off at a trailhead and pickup later?

Yes, this is one of the most common uses. Plenty of groups take the jeep in as far as the road allows, trek the section beyond it, and either get picked up at a different point or return the same way. Tell us your trek plan and we'll build the jeep days around it.

Which months are these roads actually passable?

It varies by route and year monsoon (roughly June to September) brings landslide risk on several of these roads, and some high-altitude stretches are better in the dry pre- and post-monsoon windows. Ask us for current road conditions when you're planning dates; we track this route by route rather than giving one blanket answer.

How do we book, and how far in advance?

Reach out via WhatsApp (+977 9851412833) or email info@dgtrek.com with your route and dates. For peak trekking season (autumn especially), booking a few weeks ahead is safer since vehicles get booked up alongside the trek groups.
