Langtang Gosaikunda Circuit Trek
Langtang Gosaikunda Circuit Trek 15 Days Trip overview
The Langtang Gosaikunda trek covers a lot of ground for one route: dense forest, Tamang villages that still run on subsistence farming and yak herding, and alpine meadows that open up once you're past the tree line. It starts with the drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, which takes most of a day on its own before you even put boots on trail.
From there you walk up through Lama Hotel and into the Langtang valley proper, ending at Kyanjin Gompa, an old Buddhist monastery that's still an active part of daily life for the village around it, not just a stop for photos. Kyanjin Ri sits above it, and the climb is short but steep enough to feel in your legs, worth it for the full view of Langtang Lirung and the surrounding peaks.
The trek then crosses over to Gosaikunda, a lake held sacred in both Hindu and Buddhist tradition. If you're there during Janai Purnima, expect the trail and the lakeside to be full of pilgrims, which changes the whole feel of the place compared to a normal trekking day.
Difficulty-wise, this route works for a fit beginner as much as an experienced trekker, since the days can be paced to suit either. We run it on request for 2026 and 2027 with the itinerary adjusted around your dates and fitness level.
Langtang Gosaikunda Circuit Trek 15 Days Highlights
The Langtang Valley with Gosaikunda Lake Trek is one of Nepal's most rewarding Himalayan adventures, combining breathtaking mountain scenery, rich Tamang culture, sacred alpine lakes, and diverse landscapes into one unforgettable journey. This trek is an excellent choice for travelers who want to experience both the beauty of the Langtang Valley and the spiritual significance of the famous Gosaikunda Lake.
Every year, thousands of trekkers and pilgrims visit Gosaikunda Lake, one of Nepal's most sacred alpine lakes. Revered by both Hindus and Buddhists, the lake holds deep religious importance and attracts devotees during festivals such as Janai Purnima. Beyond its spiritual value, Gosaikunda is equally admired for its crystal-clear waters, dramatic mountain backdrop, and peaceful high-altitude surroundings, making it a memorable destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is considered moderately challenging, making it suitable for trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness and a passion for exploring the Himalayas. Although some sections involve steep ascents and high-altitude trails, the trek does not require technical climbing experience. Along the way, you will walk through lush forests of rhododendron, bamboo, pine, and juniper, cross traditional mountain villages, encounter diverse wildlife, and enjoy spectacular views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks.
The Langtang region is renowned for its warm hospitality, rich Tibetan-influenced culture, centuries-old monasteries, and picturesque mountain settlements. As you travel through the valley, you will have the opportunity to experience the unique traditions of the Tamang people while exploring one of Nepal's most beautiful trekking destinations. The trail gradually climbs through peaceful forests and alpine meadows, passing yak grazing pastures before reaching the stunning landscapes surrounding Kyanjin Gompa and eventually the sacred lakes of Gosaikunda.
Your 15-day Langtang Valley with Gosaikunda Lake Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, following the Trishuli River through picturesque hills, riverside settlements, and the gateway town of Dhunche. Syabrubesi, a traditional Tamang village situated beside the Bhote Koshi River, serves as the starting point of the trekking adventure.
From Syabrubesi, the trail follows the Langtang River through dense forests and peaceful mountain landscapes before reaching Lama Hotel. The journey continues to Langtang Village, where you will witness the resilience of the local community and enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. From there, you will trek to Kyanjin Gompa, one of the highlights of the Langtang Valley.
An acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa allows your body to adjust to the increasing altitude while offering opportunities to explore the surrounding area. Many trekkers choose to hike to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri for panoramic views of Langtang Lirung and the surrounding Himalayan range. You can also visit the traditional yak cheese factory and spend time exploring the peaceful village and nearby glaciers.
After exploring the upper Langtang Valley, the trail retraces its route to Lama Hotel before continuing toward the sacred Gosaikunda region. The journey passes through the beautiful villages of Thulo Syabru and Shin Gompa, gradually ascending into alpine terrain before reaching the pristine waters of Gosaikunda Lake.
One of the most exciting sections of the trek is crossing Laurebina La Pass, which offers spectacular panoramic views of the Langtang Himalayas and the surrounding mountain ranges. After crossing the pass, the trail descends into the beautiful Helambu region, passing through Ghopte, peaceful forests, open meadows, and traditional mountain settlements.
The final days of the trek take you through Kutumsang, Pati Bhanjyang, and Chisapani, where you can enjoy excellent views of the Himalayas and the Kathmandu Valley. The adventure concludes with a pleasant walk to Sundarijal before returning to Kathmandu by road.

Best Time to Trek Langtang Valley with Gosaikunda Lake
The Langtang Valley with Gosaikunda Lake Trek can be completed throughout the year, but spring and autumn offer the best combination of stable weather, clear mountain views, and comfortable trekking conditions. These two seasons provide the most rewarding experience for both first-time trekkers and experienced hikers.
Spring Season (March to May)
Spring is one of the most beautiful times to explore the Langtang region. As winter fades, the hillsides come alive with blooming rhododendrons, magnolias, and other native wildflowers that paint the forests in vibrant shades of red, pink, and white. The trails are surrounded by fresh greenery, creating spectacular scenery throughout the journey.
Temperatures during spring are generally mild and pleasant, making long days of trekking comfortable. Skies are often clear in the morning, providing excellent views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
Spring is also an ideal season for wildlife enthusiasts. Langtang National Park is home to Himalayan black bears, musk deer, Himalayan tahr, langur monkeys, and the rare red panda, which may occasionally be spotted in the dense forests.
Autumn Season (September to November)
Autumn is widely regarded as the best trekking season in Nepal. After the summer monsoon, the air becomes fresh and clean, offering crystal-clear mountain views and pleasant temperatures throughout the day.
The trails are dry and well-maintained, making walking safer and more enjoyable. Comfortable daytime temperatures and cool evenings create ideal trekking conditions, while the deep blue skies provide uninterrupted views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Himalchuli, and many other snow-capped peaks.
Autumn is also a festive time in Nepal. Visitors trekking during this season may experience major cultural celebrations such as Dashain and Tihar, adding a unique cultural dimension to the adventure.
Meals During the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek
Tea houses along the trekking route serve a wide selection of freshly prepared Nepali, Tibetan, Asian, and continental dishes. The menu becomes simpler at higher elevations, but nutritious meals are available throughout the journey to keep you energized.
Because trekking takes place at high altitude, we recommend eating freshly cooked vegetarian meals whenever possible. They are generally healthier, easier to digest, and prepared under better hygienic conditions than meat dishes transported to remote villages.
Staying well hydrated is equally important. Drinking plenty of water, herbal tea, ginger tea, garlic soup, or hot lemon is highly recommended to help your body adjust to the altitude. It is advisable to limit alcohol and excessive caffeine during the trek.
Breakfast
Breakfast options commonly include eggs prepared in different styles, pancakes, porridge, muesli, toast with butter or jam, Tibetan bread, chapati, French toast, cornflakes, seasonal fruits, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate
Lunch
Lunch is usually served at tea houses along the trail and may include Dal Bhat, fried rice, noodles, momos, pasta, spaghetti, sandwiches, Tibetan bread, Sherpa stew, vegetable curries, potatoes, soups, pizza, and a variety of light snacks.
Dinner
Dinner menus are similar to lunch, offering wholesome meals such as Dal Bhat, noodles, pasta, vegetable curry, fried rice, soups, momos, Thukpa, macaroni, potatoes, pizza, and seasonal vegetables. Dal Bhat remains the most popular choice among trekkers because it provides unlimited refills and sustained energy for the next day's hike.
Accommodation During the Trek
Accommodation is provided in locally operated tea houses, offering an authentic Himalayan trekking experience while supporting local communities.
In the lower elevations, tea houses generally offer comfortable twin-sharing rooms with beds, mattresses, pillows, blankets, and attached or shared bathrooms. Some lodges also provide hot showers, Wi-Fi, charging facilities, and western-style toilets for an additional fee.
As you gain altitude, accommodation becomes more basic due to the remote mountain environment. Rooms remain clean and comfortable but usually include simple beds with blankets and shared bathrooms. Hot showers, internet access, and charging services may be limited or available at an extra cost.
Single rooms can sometimes be arranged in the lower villages, depending on availability, but they become increasingly difficult to secure at higher elevations during the peak trekking seasons.
Travel Insurance
omprehensive travel insurance is essential for the Langtang Valley with Gosaikunda Lake Trek.
The trail reaches elevations above 4,600 meters and passes through remote mountain areas where medical facilities are limited. In the event of illness, injury, or severe altitude sickness, emergency helicopter evacuation may be necessary.
Your insurance policy should include coverage for:
High-altitude trekking up to at least 5,500 meters
Emergency helicopter rescue and evacuation
Medical treatment and hospitalization
Trip cancellation or interruption
Personal accidents and emergency assistance
We strongly recommend purchasing insurance before arriving in Nepal to ensure complete peace of mind throughout your adventure.
Altitude Sickness and Prevention
Since this trek reaches elevations above 4,600 meters, there is a possibility of experiencing Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Although many trekkers complete the trek without serious issues, everyone responds differently to altitude.
Common symptoms may include headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite, or shortness of breath.
To reduce the risk of altitude sickness:
Walk at a comfortable pace without rushing.
Drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water daily.
Eat nutritious meals throughout the trek.
Avoid alcohol and smoking at higher elevations.
Follow the planned acclimatization schedule.
Inform your guide immediately if symptoms develop.
Descend to a lower altitude if symptoms become severe.
Our experienced guides are trained to recognize altitude sickness and will always prioritize your safety.
Trek Difficulty
The Langtang Valley with Gosaikunda Lake Trek is considered a moderately challenging trek suitable for hikers with a good level of physical fitness.
The route includes several long ascents and descents, daily walking distances of approximately 5 to 8 hours, and high-altitude sections that require endurance and proper acclimatization.
The most demanding part of the trek is crossing Laurebina La Pass at 4,610 meters, where thinner air makes hiking more physically demanding. However, with proper preparation, a steady pace, and adequate acclimatization, most trekkers successfully complete the journey.
Regular walking, hiking, cardiovascular exercise, and leg-strength training before your trip will greatly improve your trekking experience.

Your safety is our highest priority throughout the trek.
