Trip Overview
Experience a Himalayan adventure of a lifetime to the awe-inspiring Mount Manaslu (8,163m) with Destination Guru Tours & Treks. As the eighth highest mountain in the world, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal's most spiritual and rewarding treks, taking in pristine mountain scenery combined with an abundance of historical temples, monasteries, and traditional cultures. This trek, taking you to the edge of the remote Manaslu region before linking you with the Annapurna massif, promises undisturbed wilderness as well as spectacular mountain views. In terms of popularity, only the Mansalu Circuit is more highly traveled than the upper Mustang Trek within Nepal's closed region.
This trek has remained pristine and relatively unspoiled as the Nepalese government has classified this area as closed to preserve the lush environment, distinctive Tibetan culture, and natural beauty. Situated on the border of Tibet, surrounded by monasteries, chortens, and other traditional monasteries, the trek first-time travelers will experience in Nepal provides a unique look into the age-old Tibetan culture. The total duration of the trek is usually 14 days, inclusive of the entry and exit days, out of which 12 days are spent trekking.
The trek starts off on an adventurous drive from Kathmandu to Machhakhola along the roaring Budhi Gandaki River. The drive from Kathmandu to Salyantaar is on a good asphalted road but from Salyantaar to Machhakhola, it becomes rugged. So, the trek starts with such an adventure. Then on, the trail progresses through magnificent scenic views of dense forest, terraced fields, deep gorges and villages to gradually reach Samagaon.
Breathtaking natural scenery interweaving with the cultural joys: on the way from Machhakhola to Samagaon, one may cross many suspension bridges over glacial streams, walk among the narrow valleys and high grasslands, and visit the old monasteries, showcasing the spiritual connection of local ethnic groups. Buddhism is dominant among the people, with Bon featuring prominently. High altitude trekking is helped greatly by the level of acclimatization and Samagaon(3, 530 m) is a excellent stopover for acclimatization.
Extra day long trek is taken towards Manaslu Base Camp(4, 800 m) by the trekkers which gives time to body for adjustment while viewing the scenic Himalaya. The best part of the Manaslu Circuit trek is the crossing of the scenic and daunting Larkye La Pass (5,106 m). The journey to the Larkye La, often cloaked in snow, is both exhilarating at high altitude and awe inspiring.
Trekker's need to rise early to reach the pass and be rewarded with unbeatable views of the Great Himalayan range. Standing at the summit is a pinnacle moment which everyone will remember.
Spring (March–May) and autum (September–November) are the most popular seasons for the trek with sunny weather, good visibility and relatively settled atmospheric conditions of the mountains. Through the monsoons (June–September), there are landslides on some of the dirt paths caused by heavy rains that make the trek more difficult and in some cases, the transportation arrangements may be different from those outlined in the above itinerary with a possibility of clients commencing from Soti Khola and concluding in Besisahar in (14–15) days. Because of its limited status, trekking the Manaslu Circuit involves obtaining special permits such as the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a special restricted area permit.
Solo trekking is not permitted, so it is essential that you carry a registered guide. As recent developments the accommodation facilities provided along the trail have become very good, most of the teahouses are cozy and warm and they provide you not only with food but also accommodation.
They become relatively rough on the higher altitudes. When you trek with Destination Guru Tours & Treks, we ensure your safeties, comfort and the real taste of life. We provides the complete package from the well planned program, competent and experienced local guiding staff from Manaslu region to the dedicated business approach.

This is one of the best photography spots of the entire trek, offering a 360-degree Himalayan view. The trail continues through open terrain with glacial rivers, mani walls, and prayer flags, reflecting the strong Tibetan Buddhist culture of the region. The air becomes thinner and cooler as you approach higher altitude zones, but the walk remains comfortable with gradual elevation gain. Finally, you reach Samagaun, one of the largest and most important villages in the Manaslu region. Nestled beneath towering peaks, Samagaun offers incredible mountain views and serves as a key acclimatization stop for trekkers heading toward higher passes. After arrival, you can relax in a teahouse and explore the village’s monasteries and local lifestyle.
Acclimatization Day at Samagauan (Day Trip to Manaslu Base Camp 4,800 m/ 15,748 ft or Pungyen Gompa)
Today is an important rest and acclimatization day in Samagaun (3,520 m), designed to help your body adjust to higher altitude before continuing the trek. Although it is a rest day, you have the option to explore two incredible day hike destinations depending on your energy and preference. One popular option is the hike to Manaslu Base Camp (4,800 m). This challenging but rewarding ascent takes you closer to the majestic Mt. Manaslu, offering spectacular glacier views, ice formations, and surrounding Himalayan peaks. The trail is steep and physically demanding, but the breathtaking scenery at the top makes it truly unforgettable. Alternatively, you can hike to Pungyen Gompa, a peaceful and spiritually significant monastery located in a wide alpine valley beneath towering mountains. This route is less strenuous and offers incredible views of Manaslu Glacier along with a serene atmosphere perfect for reflection and photography. After returning to Samagaun, you can spend the rest of the day resting, exploring the village, or interacting with local people who follow traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture. This acclimatization day plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and successful journey ahead on the Manaslu Circuit Trek.
Trek from Samagaun to Samdo 3,865 m / 12,680 ft
After a rewarding acclimatization day, today’s trek takes you deeper into the high Himalayan landscape as you leave Samagaun and head toward Samdo. The trail begins with a gradual ascent through wide alpine valleys, offering stunning views of Mt. Manaslu and surrounding snow-capped peaks. The route is relatively short but important for acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to higher altitude. You will cross open yak pastures, glacial streams, and windswept terrain with very few settlements along the way. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and dramatic as you approach the Tibetan border region. As you continue trekking, you may notice strong Tibetan cultural influences in the architecture, prayer flags, and stone structures scattered along the trail. The air becomes thinner and colder, and the sense of remoteness grows stronger with every step. Finally, you arrive at Samdo, a small traditional village close to the Tibetan frontier. This peaceful settlement offers incredible mountain views and a unique cultural experience. After reaching Samdo, you can rest in a teahouse and take a short exploration walk around the village to further aid acclimatization.
Trek from Samdo to Dharmasala 4,480 m / 14698 ft
Today’s trek is a short but important ascent into the high alpine zone as you move closer to the challenging Larke La Pass. Leaving Samdo, the trail climbs gradually through barren landscapes, with wide-open valleys, rocky terrain, and strong winds becoming more noticeable as you gain altitude. The route offers stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks and glaciers, with the terrain becoming increasingly rugged and remote. You may also spot remnants of old trade routes leading toward the Tibetan border, reflecting the historical significance of this region. Since this is a high-altitude section, the pace is slow and steady, focusing on proper acclimatization. There are no permanent settlements along the way, only seasonal shelters and dramatic mountain wilderness. Finally, you reach Dharamsala (also known as Larke Phedi), the final stop before crossing the Larke La Pass. The accommodation here is basic, but the atmosphere is filled with anticipation as trekkers prepare for the most challenging and rewarding day of the entire Manaslu Circuit Trek.
Trek from Dharmasala to Bimthang 3,720 m /12,205 ft via Larkya La Pass 5,160m/ 16,929 ft
Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of the entire Manaslu Circuit Trek as you cross the legendary Larke La Pass. The journey begins very early in the morning from Dharamsala, as trekkers set out in the cold and darkness to make a steady ascent toward the pass. The trail is steep, rocky, and often covered with snow, requiring careful and slow progress due to the high altitude. As you climb higher, the surrounding landscapes become increasingly dramatic, with vast glaciers, frozen lakes, and towering peaks creating a truly unforgettable Himalayan setting. Reaching the top of Larke La Pass is a major achievement of the trek, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II on clear days. After spending some time at the summit, the trail descends steeply toward the Bimthang valley. The descent is long and demanding, passing through icy moraines, glacial streams, and rugged terrain. As you lose altitude, the scenery gradually transforms into greener landscapes with forests and open valleys. Finally, you arrive at Bimthang (3,720 m), a stunning alpine valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains and glaciers. This peaceful setting offers a well-deserved rest after a long and exhausting but unforgettable day in the high Himalayas.
Trek from Bimthang to Dharapani 1860 m / 6,102 ft
After the high mountain adventure of crossing Larke La Pass, today’s trek offers a dramatic change in landscape as you descend from alpine wilderness into greener valleys. Leaving Bimthang, the trail begins with breathtaking views of glaciers, snow-capped peaks, and open alpine meadows. As you move downhill, the terrain gradually transforms from rocky highlands to lush rhododendron and pine forests. The trail follows the Dudh Khola river valley, passing through scenic landscapes, small settlements, and peaceful forested areas. The descent is long but very rewarding, offering a refreshing contrast after the high-altitude section of the trek. Along the way, you will pass through villages like Karche and Gho, where traditional stone houses and terraced fields reflect the lifestyle of the lower Himalayan communities. The warmer air and greener surroundings signal your return toward more inhabited regions. Finally, you reach Dharapani, a key junction connecting the Manaslu and Annapurna trekking routes. Here, you can relax and celebrate the successful completion of the Manaslu Circuit Trek, enjoying the comfort of lower altitude and well-established facilities.
Drive from Dharapani to Kathmandu 1,350 m / 4,429 ft
Today marks the final day of your incredible Manaslu Circuit Trek as you leave Dharapani and begin your long return journey to Kathmandu. After breakfast, you will take a local jeep or vehicle from Dharapani, driving through the scenic hills and river valleys of the Annapurna region. The drive follows a rough mountain road at the beginning, gradually improving as you reach Besisahar and connect to the main highway. Along the way, you will pass terraced farmlands, traditional villages, waterfalls, and winding rivers that showcase the beautiful rural landscape of Nepal. As you continue toward Kathmandu, the journey becomes smoother on the paved highway, offering a comfortable ride back to the capital. You will travel through bustling roadside towns and lush green hills, reflecting on the unforgettable memories of your trekking adventure in the Manaslu region. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. The evening is free for rest, celebration, or exploring the vibrant streets of Thamel one last time.
