Overview
The journey, to the Everest Base Camp is an exciting adventure that takes you to the heart of the Himalayas leading up to Mount Everests base camp. Nestled in Nepals Khumbu region this trek promises memories with its views, charming Sherpa villages and challenging trails.
Originally established as a storage site for mountaineering supplies at the base of the mountain South Everest Base Camp was where Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary stored their gear. Its location was chosen for access, by non mountaineers. Today the Everest Base Camp Trek still ends at this spot.
The journey kicks off with a flight, from Kathmandu to the quaint alpine airstrip of Lukla. Starting the trek from Lukla you’ll cross suspension bridges over rivers. Make your way up through dense forests adorned with rhododendrons and pine trees. As you ascend further the landscape transforms into a sight showcasing snow capped peaks and glaciers.
The trail leads you through Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar, a market town that serves as the entrance, to the Everest region. Immerse yourself in Sherpa traditions by exploring monasteries and engaging with the welcoming locals. You will eventually arrive in Tengboche, which is the location of the well-known Tengboche Monastery. This spiritual institution offers a serene sanctuary surrounded by stunning mountain vistas. Reaching Everest Base Camp is the ultimate aim of the Everest Base Camp Trek. Standing at a height of 5,364 meters (17,598 feet), the sheer enormity of Mount Everest and its neighboring peaks will astound you.
